Why is concentrating on local artists so important ?

To really experience a work of art, you must see it in person, so AreaArtist.com concentrates on local artists. By concentrating on the local area, we make it easy for people to find an artist and view their work in person, either by arranging a viewing or attending a show. After all, who is more likely to purchase your work, a local collector who can easily see your actual artwork, or some one across the country who only sees a computer image of your work ?

The people who enjoy art also enjoy participating in the local art scene; attending openings, meeting artists, visiting artists’ studios. In addition, collectors want to see the actual artwork before buying. The AreaArtist® website does not try to replace participation in the local art scene, instead it is designed to enhance it, and make it easier to purchase fine art.

Is anyone accepted ?

We are a juried site. An artist must submit images for jurying in order to join. Your work is shown only with the best!  Its important to consider the other artwork being shown with your work, it reflects on your work and how it is viewed. By showing your work with other juried artists you will increase your reputation and your work will receive more exposure. We are looking for exceptional and original work. Artists' portfolios should display a unified body of work, and show a mastery of their chosen medium. 

What is the advantage of the Area Artist® website over my own web site?

We actively promote our artists. We have worked hard to develop a reputation in the area as the number one resource for people looking for art or creative professionals and our monthly newsletter is very popular. Be sure to see the “In the News” page on our website, which lists some of the recent articles about the site. The site has been contacted by people looking for artists, commissioned work and art teachers. Our artists have also been contacted by people interested in purchasing their work and by venues offering them shows.

In addition, the cost and time, to design, update and market an individual web site are considerable. With your work on the Area Artist® website, you can devote more time to your art.  If you already have an individual web site we will post a link to your website where collectors can find out even more about you. 

Do you take a commission ? What is the cost ?

The site is designed so anyone interested in your work can contact you and purchase from you directly. There is no commission on these sales. Occasionally, we are asked to help in selecting an artist, this is the only time we take a commission, then the fee is 10%.

We charge only a start up fee for the design of your pages and a membership fee which can be paid quarterly or annually.
